As the basketball regular season draws to a close, we are incredibly proud to share a major update on the journey of Foundation athlete, Gavin Mitchell.
It has been a whirlwind of high-stakes competition for Gavin, who has been balancing his studies and training while playing for three different teams every single week with the Oaklands Wolves.
Gavin’s hard work and dedication have helped lead his squads to some remarkable milestones this season:
EABL Squad: One of Gavin’s primary goals this year was to reach the playoffs. We are thrilled to share that his team has officially secured their spot! The postseason begins this week with a challenging road trip to Manchester.
The Men’s Team: This squad has been a force of nature, remaining undefeated with a perfect 17-0 record. They have been confirmed as League Winners and have officially secured promotion to Division 1 for next season!
The U18s: Not to be outdone, the U18 team is also currently undefeated. While they have been confirmed as league winners, they still have upcoming games to determine their final league placement for next season.
Despite his busy schedule and individual success, Gavin wanted to make sure he shared these team victories with the Foundation community. His focus on collective achievement and constant improvement perfectly reflects the “honest player” spirit that Murray Sharp valued so much.
Supporting young athletes like Gavin, who demonstrate grit, teamwork, and the ability to balance elite sport with their education, is exactly why the Murray Sharp Foundation was established.
