The elite amateur golf calendar is notoriously unforgiving, packing some of the most prestigious tournaments in the world into a tiny summer window.
Foundation athlete Ross Laird has been right in the thick of it, testing his game against top-tier international fields at the Lytham Trophy, the Brabazon Trophy, and the Scottish Men’s Amateur Open. Stepping up to this level of competition means battling tiny margins.
Ross checked in with the Foundation to share an honest reflection on his season so far:
“As of now, I have played the Lytham Trophy, Brabazon Trophy, and Scottish Men’s. I have finished T30, T37, and MC. So far I haven’t had my best stuff, but it isn’t a million miles away. My golf isn’t far away… I just need to find the short grass more often.”
Finishing T30 at Royal Lytham & St Annes and T37 at the Brabazon Trophy are incredibly solid results in fields loaded with the best amateur golfers in Europe.
As any golfer knows, when your game feels just a fraction off, a missed fairway here or a lip-out there makes all the difference. But true to the player spirit, Ross is keeping his head high, knowing that a minor breakthrough off the tee is all it takes to trigger a massive week on the leaderboard.

Up next is one of the absolute majors of amateur golf. Ross will be heading down to England in late June to take on the formidable links of Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) and West Lancashire.
