We recently caught up with Foundation athlete Magnus Morris, who returned from a high-octane weekend of racing at the Edinburgh International 2026.
The event has long been a staple of the swimming calendar, but this year’s meet was a cut above the rest. Described as the fastest in recent years, the lanes were filled with elite talent, including a significant portion of Team GB, top-tier junior athletes, and some of the finest swimmers on the planet.
Racing the Champions
For Magnus, the weekend provided a “pinch-me” moment on the blocks. During the 50m Freestyle, he found himself in the same heat as double Olympic Champion and multi-medal winner James Guy.
“It was pretty cool,” Magnus shared, reflecting on the chance to test his speed against a legend of the sport who holds numerous European, Commonwealth, and Olympic titles.
The Road To London
While the competition was fierce, Magnus approached the meet with a strategic mindset. Acting as a “training meet,” he didn’t fully rest for the event. Instead, he used the high-pressure environment as vital race practice for the Commonwealth Trials, which are now just a few weeks away in London.
Despite the heavy training load, Magnus’s performance was incredibly sharp. He competed in the 50m Freestyle, Butterfly, and Backstroke, finishing close to his personal bests in all three disciplines – a fantastic sign as he prepares for the peak of his season.
Supporting the Journey
At the Murray Sharp Foundation, we are proud to provide the support that allows athletes like Magnus to compete at this elite level. As Magnus noted, having a sponsor is a privilege that helps bridge the gap between hard work and world-class results.
“It’s been a real pleasure to be granted the privilege to actually have a sponsor,” said Magnus. “Thanks again for the support over the last year.”
We’ll be watching closely as Magnus heads to London for the trials!
