A Weekend Of Personal Bests
We are thrilled to share a phenomenal end-of-season update from one of our supported athletes, swimmer Magnus Morris. After balancing a busy period of exams with intensive training, Magnus took to the pool and delivered a series of career-defining performances.
Breaking into the History Books
The highlight of the weekend came in the 50m Freestyle. Magnus didn’t just compete; he dominated.
After clocking a Personal Best (PB) of 22.81 seconds in the heats, Magnus dug even deeper for the ‘A’ Final, the “big boy” final featuring the top eight performers of the meet. Competing against a field mostly comprised of athletes over the age of 20, Magnus secured a staggering new PB of 22.68 seconds.
This incredible time officially makes Magnus Morris the 5th fastest Scottish 18-year-old of all time in the 50m Freestyle!
A Weekend of Personal Bests
Magnus’s success wasn’t limited to a single event. He showed incredible versatility across the board, qualifying for a total of three finals:
50m Butterfly: Smashed his PB by 1.13 seconds (24.74s) to qualify for the B Final.
50m Backstroke: Shaved a massive 1.2 seconds off his PB (26.24s) to qualify for the C Final.
50m Freestyle: Achieved the historic 5th all-time Scottish ranking in the A Final.
Looking Ahead to 2026
With the short-course season coming to a close, Magnus is already looking ahead to next year. The focus now shifts to Long Course competitions, where he will bring his newfound speed and confidence to the 50m Olympic-sized pools.
Magnus shared his gratitude with the Foundation, saying:
“I’m incredibly appreciative of the support the Foundation has provided. I’m really looking forward to continuing with you next year. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”
Everyone at the Murray Sharp Foundation is incredibly proud of Magnus’s dedication and record-breaking results. We can’t wait to see what he achieves in 2026!
