An inside look at Scott Newman’s dynamic golf season & US college preparations

The Murray Sharp Foundation is thrilled to share an update on the success of Scott Newman, one of our promising supported golfers, who has had a remarkably active and victorious season.

Scott’s dedication on the course is truly evident as he prepares for his exciting journey to American collegiate golf.

Kicking off the season strong, Scott represented the Ayrshire men’s team in a warm-up game, where he secured a win in his foursomes match. He then moved on to the Craigmillar Park Men’s Open, navigating the challenging course with scores of 76 and 71 on day one to comfortably make the cut. Day two saw consistent play with rounds of 77 and 71, leading to a 32nd place finish. A highlight of the event was undoubtedly Scott’s impressive hole-in-one on the 13th!

His competitive drive continued at a Junior Tour Scotland event in Portpatrick. After a strong start at 1-over in the first round and level par through 15 holes in the second, play was unfortunately abandoned due to fog. However, Scott rallied in the third round, shooting a fantastic 3-under to secure a tied 1st place finish among approximately 50 players.

Scott has a busy schedule ahead, having recently played his first-round ties in both the Ayrshire and Renfrewshire Champions of Champions matches. Later this month, he will compete in the Renfrewshire Men’s Championship before heading to the Welsh Youths Championship at the end of May.

Looking to the future, Scott confirmed that his plans to study and play golf in America are firmly on track. He has been accepted at Lindsey Wilson University and is due to depart for the US in early August of this year!

Scott expressed his sincere gratitude for the Murray Sharp Foundation’s ongoing support, acknowledging how it is “much appreciated” as he prepares for this significant next chapter.

The Foundation is incredibly proud to back Scott as he continues to develop his impressive golfing career.
