From Kilmacolm to Hungary: Alexander Farmer set to represent Scotland on the European stage this year

Alexander Farmer, our talented sponsored athlete from Kilmacolm, has been making stellar progress in his golfing career, proudly backed by the Murray Sharp Foundation.

Alexander, who was the 2024 Scottish Amateur Champion, truly embodies dedication, successfully balancing his degree at Stirling University with an intense schedule of training and competitions.

Alexander has been a consistent performer in some of the UK’s biggest amateur events this summer, truly showcasing his dedication and skill. He finished 17th at the Lytham Trophy at Royal Lytham & St Annes, notably as the 3rd best Scot, with a total score of 295. He then secured 20th place at the Brabazon Trophy at Hankley Common, ranking as the 2nd best Scot, with a 286 total. His strong play continued with a 22nd-place finish at the Scottish Men’s Strokeplay at North Berwick.

One of the undeniable highlights of Alexander’s season was his 21st-place finish at the prestigious St Andrews Links Trophy. Competing on the grounds of the Old Course, an iconic venue synonymous with golf’s greatest, Alexander showcased remarkable consistency and skill. His total score of 281, with rounds of 73, 69, 70, and 69, demonstrates his ability to perform under pressure on one of golf’s most demanding courses. This strong showing at such a high-profile event truly underscores his potential and growing stature in the amateur game.

Although he missed the cut in the main event of the British Amateur at Royal St George’s & Deal, he still impressed by shooting a 66 (-6) in pre-qualifying. He also claimed 9th place at the Tennant Cup at Glasgow Gailes & Killermont.

Alexander’s consistent, high-level play has undoubtedly paid off. Just recently, he hit a significant milestone, being selected for his first full cap to represent the Scottish Men’s 6-man team at the European Championships next month in Hungary. This tremendous achievement is a clear testament to his hard work, immense talent, and unwavering determination.

We’re delighted that Alexander has been generously sponsored with clothing for the season by Under Armour. Additionally, all of his sponsored gear is embroidered with the Murray Sharp Foundation logo, which he proudly wears at every event. It’s fantastic to see our foundation represented by such a talented, rising star in the world of golf.

With his sights firmly set on Walker Cup selection and a successful professional career, the foundation is incredibly proud to support Alexander every step of the way. We wish him all the very best for the European Championships and the rest of his season!
